Now we will work on some more difficult conversions - but please remember the following conversions are only more difficult in form - not in process - that is we will apply the same three-step process (as we used before) to do these more difficult form of conversions Now we will convert some metric quantities to American quantities and some American quantities to metric quantities. These conversions are done by the same three-step process (as are all conversions), but of course we must now apply metric-American unit equivalencies in the conversion factor fractions. Some of the commonly used metric-American unit equivalencies are:
Another metric quantity that we will often encounter is the cubic centimeter (cc) unit of volume, which is exactly equivalent to the milliliter (ml) that is: 1 cc = 1 ml Let's try some metric-American quantity conversions (remember the principle is the same - we apply the same three-step process):
1. 145 pounds 2. 2200 ml 3. 1 yd Notice that the third conversion shown above is a triple conversion. The three conversions were necessary because the only distance equivalency given involved centimeters (cm) and inches so it was necessary to convert the yards to inches and then to centimeters. Now try these Metric-American quantity conversions
